Over the past few years, I've had the pleasure and good fortune to take courses from fused glass Masters (maestros!) from around the world.
Below are some examples of works in progress and "documents" of my successes and failures as I continue to expand my skills and to find and refine my voice as an artist. All of these remain in my personal collection since they are experiments and "documents" of the learning process.
Glass is a reflection of me, and I am reflected in my art...
Abstract Landscape
Forged in the hills of Italy in May 2023... and a wonderful new technique learned!
Glass powders and frit (small pieces of crushed glass) on clear sheet glass.
Not made from a template or decal!
This piece is made from glass powder, sifted and moved on the base glass with a variety of tools... carefully, painstakingly, to create a portraiture full of life - veins, muscle creases, shadows, expression...
how I love this new technique!
This is the original photo that inspired the above
glass work.
More landscape work.
5 layers of crushed and sheet glass to create a depth that is difficult to see in the photo
but is very evident in the piece itself.
A whole lot learned and a lot to be practiced with this new technique!
And who doesn't love a cute little hen?
Learning to work with line and colour...
And changing the way I think about my subject matter.
Playing with the movement and transformation of glass in the kiln.
Oh, the colours!!
Sometimes the subject matter is hard,
and it should be...
Art isn't always about being happy
(although that is mostly my default state of being).
Being able to translate a tough subject into something beautiful is truly an honour.
